Formerly ‘Amateur Writers Group’ The Members meet on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, at a Member’s home, to read out items of prose, poetry or any variation of either, that they have written on either of two subjects, chosen by us in turn, announced at the previous meeting and reported in the Monthly Newsletter. Very occasionally, if neither of the “subjects” appeals, a Member will choose a different subject anyway, but this is uncommon as it is usually possible to twist a subject to suit the writer’s whim. The important factor is that each writer should enjoy writing. If the other Members enjoy listening, that is a bonus, but it happens quite frequently! Meetings are arranged to start at 2.30 pm and usually finish by about 4.30 pm depending on how many Members attend, and how much discussion the items produce. The host(ess) provides tea/coffee and biscuits either during or after the readings.
Our experience is that about 8 Members at a meeting will produce a variety of essays, poems and discussion. Additional members are welcome and any U3A Member, or prospective member, who would like to come and sample a meeting, either with or without a composition of their own, is invited to contact the host(ess) to check that they can be accommodated.
