Tiverton U3A

Trekking Group

Trekking is a group within the Tiverton U3A which walks regularly once a month, distances of between 9 and 13 miles, sometimes more. The group has at present a following of 30 people, although not all turn up every month, the average being around 10 to 12.

We mostly walk on Exmoor and Dartmoor, and in The Quantocks and the Brendon hills, although we occasionally choose different or local places. The object is to cover the distance while enjoying the scenery in places that you might not normally get to, and not to race. We endeavour to set our pace to that of the slower walkers. Each member has the opportunity to plan and lead a walk if they wish.

Because of the locations and sometimes limited parking space I endeavour to arrange car sharing where possible. With this in mind, and the need to make a prompt start, I need members to let me know a minimum of 24 hours in advance if they are coming along.

We carry our own food and drink, generally stopping for around 20 minutes to eat, about the halfway mark. At the end of the walk we very often call into a nearby pub for a sociable drink and chat.

All are welcome, including members of other U3As, so if you are interested give me a call or email.
